Watch Seafair Online

Thank you.
Widespread television coverage of Unlimited Hydroplane Racing is hard to come by. Live coverage of Sunday racing is rare. Watching from hundreds – or thousands – of miles away is nearly impossible.
Nearly.
If you can’t make it to Seattle to be a part of the fun in person, you might want to try my experiment to watch the coverage online. KIRO 7, the CBS affiliate, is planning extensive coverage of Seafair weekend. Let me walk you through my test.
First, Seafair’s Facebook post. Note the references to KIRO being the official station and the opportunities to follow the action on air, online and on mobile.
Sunday is the day, for 8 hours of live, high def coverage.
They will have the A-Team again working the event, with Team Raible, Russell, Hanauer and Fitzsimmons. I plan to get comfy in front of the computer.
Although I’d prefer to be there in person, watching from home — even if home is a long way from Seattle — isn’t bad. The bar is closer and the bathrooms aren’t crowded.
My Test
In this example from the KIRO 7 web page, note the ability to watch live streaming video. In my test this morning, I clicked PLAY and got a quick update on the local Seattle weather from the morning news broadcast. I tried it a few times and occasionally got a quick sponsored clip at the beginning, but it wasn’t bad. Then, right to the live broadcast.
Keep in mind, KIRO may update their layout to offer specific access to Sunday’s action, but this is a known good at this time.
What’s Your Plan?
I plan to have cold adult beverages in front of me and of course, appropriate snacks. If you are relegated to watching remotely, how do you plan to enjoy it?
