Hello Dave, my Name is David Czapiewski. I have been a fan of hydroplane racing since the 70s watching Bill Muncy Racing the Atlas Van Lines, the Pride of Pat n Pak, Miss Budweiser and Miss Madison on Lake Washington on the log boom tied up on a boat and on the shore.

My Brother Jeff had never missed one for almost 40 years, he suddenly passed away from A heart attack last year two days after my Birthday in late June! We have been to the torchlight parade many times while they used to parade 15-18 thunder boats!

Downtown Seattle really goes off for seafair. In 78 I moved to So California and had been to Bayfair almost every year. Even my Brother came down in 88,89 and 90 for the Gold Cup one or two of those years!

He was a huge Oh Boy Oberto fan!

Last year in the Stan Sayers pits I released his ashes the following weekend after seafair from those famous docks, anyway thank you for live streaming. Awesome job.

One thing you could do more (in my opinion) is tell more history about the sport between heats and what I noticed is too much clear air while no commentary, just too much dead air or no interesting story’s of history of past races or maybe more subject matter, just an idea.

Maybe a story about past drivers or owners such as Bernie Little or famous close races that were so intense! Or maybe some engineering details and how a hydroplane operates at speed or in the corners. Or how engines have evolved from Allison’s or Merlin’s, to lycomoning turbine helicopter engines.

You have such a rich past history to archives of facts, rules and how the sport has evolved. Because the field is small and the younger generation is not aware of anything that’s happened 10,20 30 years + past will be lost forever. Hopefully it survives and more interest and $$$ keeps getting invested. Because the sport needs to stay alive!

I went to Bayfair last year to spread ashes on vacation island on the start finish line and forth turn to honor my brothers spirit. He loved the sport! I got my kids who are now 35 and 36 and also my grandchildren Carter and Sawyer the destroyer to see the spectacle on mission bay! They had baseball last Sunday so we missed this year. But they still say. Papa when are we going to see the Thunderboats again. I told them next year 2020 we will go again.

Thank you for letting me Rant n Rave about H1 Hydroplane Racing with many stories. Thank you.

    Sincerely,

    David Czapiewski
    Thunderboat fan forever!

David, thank you for sharing your story! Always fun to hear what’s important to each fan. We all have something different that is our favorite part.

I’ll try to share your suggestions on social media with H1 Unlimited, since they were responsible for creating the live streaming. If you haven’t followed me on Facebook or Twitter, I encourage you to do so:

It’s my pleasure, Tom. As a fan like you, I’m always looking for convenient ways to watch the races live, or on replay. The “Race Recap” series evolved out of desire to just make it easy.

While I appreciate your comment about providing an easy way to watch, credit for the actual coverage and live streaming goes to H1 Unlimited. They commissioned the coverage; I just curated the feeds into a single page on UnlimitedHydroplaneRacing.com to make it easy to follow the action all weekend.

      Thanks!
