CDA Making Hydroplane Racing Progress PDQ

When we last checked in with Doug Miller and his progress with the Coeur d’Alene Diamond Cup, he and the team had a blast conducting a press event to confirm “all systems GO” for Unlimited Hydroplane Racing in Northern Idaho over Labor Day, 2013.

With the momentum they enjoyed leading up to the press event, and with what has been accomplished to date, we are long overdue to provide an update on their progress.

And what progress they’ve made!

With the launch of a new site and continually adding more content, they are on their way.  Let’s take a look at some of that progress, shall we?

New Web Site

Diamond Cup Sponsors

If you haven’t been the Diamond Cup web site recently, you will enjoy an entirely fresh look.  Of particular import is the significant sponsors shown on the site.  Team Miller has come a long way from the challenges early in the process.  What an outstanding line-up of sponsors!

The importance of this accomplishment can’t be overstated.  In Unlimited Hydroplane Racing’s Boat Book, one of the areas we explore which affect the planning for hosting a race is the significant financial considerations.

The Diamond Cup has had past challenges in this area, but those have solidly been put astern.

Extensive Ticket Selection

With the breadth and depth of ticket package selections, there is truly something for every fan.  There are choices ranging from free admission on Friday to Day Tickets to complete packages.  Whether you’re the weekend pass sort, the Log Boom type, or the RV’er needing a shuttle, Team Diamond Cup has you covered.

One observation about the strategic nature of running an event like this.  I’m sure it isn’t a coincidence that TicketsWest, who is the ticket purveyor, is also a sponsor.  Everything is right about that and nothing wrong.  All parties are pulling in the same direction, with the goal of a very successful event.

If they are successful (and we all think they will be) the true winners will be the fans.  Bring it on!

Swag

Yeah, all good events need t-shirts.  Ladies, you will be pleased to know they will actually have shirts tailored for you – not the one-size-fits-all sack so often offered.

As someone who used to have responsibility for branded merchandise sales, I can speak from experience as to the importance of this decision.

One can assume they’ll be available soon, as the site says July… and July’s here.

Sponsorship Packages

The current stable of sponsors shown above is impressive.  We’ve already talked about that.  Consider what it takes to plan the details around an event, extensively enough that sponsorship value can be assigned.

Just like the ticket selection provides something for everyone, so does the sponsorship opportunities.  The financial levels are:

  • $1,000
  • $5,000
  • $10,000
  • $25,000
  • $50,000
  • $100,000
  • $250,000
  • $500,000

While these are as varied as the ticket packages, the sponsor benefits at each level are much too significant to list here. You’ll just have to see for yourself.

If you are a potential sponsor, you can see the enormous value that comes from involvement.  Be sure to contact Doug Miller at 208.691.1612 or dmiller@diamondcuprace.com.

Volunteer Application

Any event of this magnitude takes considerable financial backing (see above) but it also takes many, many feet on the street.

If you want to be one of the more than 500 people needed to rock this event, simply visit the Diamond Cup Volunteer page to apply.

Alternatively, you can download the Volunteer Application fill it in by hand, and mail or fax it in.  Unfortunately, neither the application nor the web site seem to offer a fax number.  Best to email it or simply use the online application page.

Stay in Touch

One easy way to stay in touch is through the Diamond Cup Race Facebook page.  On the day of this post, (July 11, 2013) they were announcing a volunteer event being held that evening.  If you want to be a part of this event, it is easy to get involved.

Hold On for Blastoff

With all systems GO, this event is about to blast off just like the boats that will be in attendance.  Get involved as a volunteer, become a sponsor, or just plan to be a fan.  Regardless of the role you choose, it will be a… well… BLAST!
