Doha – Look Back to Look Ahead

The Peninsula in Doha is reporting today on the Unlimited Hydroplanes arriving in Qatar.  The Qatar Marine Sports Federation (QMSF) is just about ready for this weekend’s Oryx Cup.  As most of you know, we are on the final end of the racing schedule for the 2012 season and subsequently, the start of the 2013 schedule with the next race next month.

Sheikh Hassan is thrilled at the boats returning and as Unlimited Hydroplane Racing fans, we are, too.

While there is plenty of action just about ready to unfold, I thought it would be fun to take a look back at some previous excitement in Doha.

Here’s the video being billed as one of “H1’s Greatest Races.” It is the 2009 Final Heat in Doha.

I’m not sure if it is the racing, the crashing, or the play-by-play, but this is great stuff. It’s a bit dated, but still an exciting 8 ½ minutes.

If this doesn’t get you in the mood for the Oryx Cup, well… you’d better call 911!
