UHR Founder Raising Dementia Awareness

Many of you know me as UHR Dave. I’ve been involved with bringing you conversation and provocative thinking around the sport of Unlimited Hydroplane Racing for quite some time. Today, I am taking the liberty to share my other passion with you.

This certainly is a departure from Unlimited Hydroplane Racing. We get it. However, we also know that many, many of our Damn Smart Fans are directly affected or have a family member or close friend who is. We feel it is our obligation to share this with you.

Dementia Awareness with KalendarKardsRaising Dementia Awareness

Over two years ago, a friend and I began developing a system to support his mother-in-law who was having trouble remembering important tasks and activities around her home.

Our efforts evolved into creating a product to support caregivers and their loved ones.

KalendarKards Memory Support System

Stadium LoadedKalendarKards is based on familiar playing cards used as simple reminders for individuals who become overwhelmed with too much stimulus. Those challenged by mild cognitive impairment not only “don’t recall” easily, but too many reminders confuse more than they help.

Through simple, single, reminder cues, KalendarKards provides comfort and confidence to families who have the goal of keeping their loved one comfortable, confident, and independent in their own homes for as long as possible.

You can learn more about KalendarKards on our web site.

However, the primary reason for this announcement is to describe KalendarKards’ mission to raise awareness of Alzheimer’s Disease and the other Dementias. We’re using Kickstarter to do that.

Kickstarter Campaign

KalendarKards Kickstarter CampaignWe launched our Kickstarter Campaign to accomplish several things. As an early startup, we are not yet manufacturing at levels that would allow our costs to be at planned levels. We have sales and we’re still growing. Kickstarter is expected to provide that “step function” to allow us to execute future production runs and much higher levels – with lower costs.

Through a stretch goal, we are driven to fund a “Special Edition” of the KalendarKards system. The Stadium is the heart of the system, where the reminder cards are displayed. We intend to create a signature purple version of the system to help us collaborate with organizations to raise awareness, and hopefully, funds for their operations.

Purple Stadiums

Specialty colors are more expensive and carry higher production requirements, so we are asking for support from many – including our Damn Smart Fans.

Your Support

Please read in more detail about our Kickstarter efforts on our KalendarKards web site. From there, click through to our campaign and lend any support you can.

If you are touched by Dementia in your family, you have an opportunity for a discount on a system as an early adopter. If you simply want to help the cause, you can provide a pledge at any amount. With multiple reward levels, you can pledge – and help – in any number of ways.

Thank you for being an Unlimited Hydroplane Racing follower, and thank you for supporting KalendarKards. Please contact me directly at info@KalendarKards.com if you have any questions.

A new campaign, called Still Me , is designed to raise awareness and understanding of dementia, and help address the stigma attached to the condition. It aims to alert people to the early signs and symptoms of dementia and encourage people to seek an early diagnosis.
